The distribution of fibronectin during wound healing of severely burned skin was studied by avidin-biotin-peroxidase complex(ABC) technique.
Severely burned wound was made in the skin on the back of rats by immersion in 100¡ÆC water for 3 seconds and specimens were taken at various intervals. Histological examinations were done with H & E, silver impregnation, Masson trichrome, and van Gieson stains. The distribution of fibronectin was observed by using avidin-biotin-peroxidase complex(ABC) in immunoperoxidase technique.
The results were as follows;
1. Fibronectin was demonstrated as fibrinous network in acute and chronic inflammatory reactions. As the granulation tissue developed, the amount of fibronectin was gradually increased and was seen in extracellular matrix. With maturation of granulation tissue, the amount of fibronectin was markedly reduced.
2. The amount of fibronectin was markedly increased in the regenerative epidermis overlying granulation tissue containing abundant fibronectin.
